Supposedly, they stand for less tax, less government and strong defense. That's what they called basic and there is a call for the Republicans to return to basics. So far, this administration has done the first, gone reverse on the second and certainly excessive on the third basic.

Publicly: smaller government, tax cuts, family values

Privately: more government (ex: Patriot Act, Homeland Security, illegal wiretapping program), tax breaks only for the top 1% elite, and protection for Republican pedophiles, tax dodgers, draft dodgers, and offshore companies outsourcing American jobs.

Who falls for this: Joe and Jane SixPack, who figure as long as they get a $300 tax rebate check every two years, the economy is strong and all is right with the world. Never mind their grandkids will have a whopping deficit....they can always blame Clinton!

Who knows better: 95% of Democrats, 1% of Republicans (the perpretrators of the BIG JOKE, and some poli sci watchdogs)

They stand for a lot but they don't do a thing
GOP control of all 3 branches of Govt stands for...........
Fiscal Responsibility - Record shattering deficits 50% increase in spending ( and no that doesn't include the war a separate appropriation)
Smaller Govt. - 50% increase in size and spending of govt (check your IRS tax book) and largest social program since SS The Medicaid drug program which at 55 Bil a year apparently doesn't work
Protect big Bizz - The oil companies receive over 5 billion in stipends despite record profits and 3$ a gal
Stronger defense - 4000 less cops and fireman work in NYC then did on 9/11 our first line of defense and our first responders to terrorism

Competence, fiscal responsibility, strong defense.

See why even Republicans are upset with Bush? He's 1 for 3.

i am a rep-traditionally, republicans want small govt in the economy and big govt in values-dems r the exact opposite. Reps r usually pro-life, anti-gay marriage (but this isnt a big deal), pro-adult and cord stem cell research as opposed to embryonic stem cell research, and we r not in favor of racial discrimination as well as economic discrimination. it is more of a "do good and get good results/do bad and get bad results" type of economy. we usually favor tax cuts in hopes that people of all classes will spend more and that the circulation of this money will benefit our economy.

people think republicans only reward rich people. this isnt true. they reward WORKING people; people that actually work hard for things. they dont believe in letting people that wrong the law get off easy.

what i like to say about the republican party in short (and as to not offend liberals and democrats as i often do ), is that they respect respectable people.

they have moved so far from the middle - its hard to say - a splintered division of right - the middle is regrouping as with the democrats - we may have a shot of better governing for at least 4 years

LOL @ Willis Jeffords

republicans have lately done nothing but stood for appeasing thier fanatic minority of their power base.
it pretty hard to determine what they are actually for, because 95% of them seem to say one thing and do the complete opposite.
lately it seems, that they stand for anything the lobbyist that hands them the biggest wad of $$ tells them to stand for.

as for armorexe2000, you sound like you are claiming the same ideals that most republican supporters call socialism!
