I don't understand that whole attitude about looking for gifts for people at x-mas. I have always loved gift giving no matter the time of year.
I have a hard time not telling them what I got for them. To see the eyes get so big and the smile on thier face (no matter the age) when they see you purchased something for them that they really wanted. Something they felt was too extravagent or something they really wanted but thought it was a waste of money or something too expensive. When they walked away you could see it in thier eyes the disappointment that they could not get it for themselves. Then to see them open it and the happiness that they feel at that point it worth more than anything on this earth. I realize it is a short lived feeling and one driven by something material, but at that point they are truely happy. It does not matter that it is the wrong size, it is simply because you paid attention to thier feelings. It is knowing that for that one moment you brought so much happiness to one person that they forgot all thier worries. At that moment the world peace is achieved. I know not literally but close enough. I could die peacefully at that moment. To just know someone cared enough to take the time to think of me, paid attention, and all because they truely loved me for me. And not out buying me a gift because they felt they had too but because they wanted too. Unless thought went into it, it is not a gift with meaning, and I would rather not have it. When x-mas becomes work or a dreaded holiday, your not celebrating the spirit YOUR MORNING IT, so why bother. Buy gifts through out the year cuz that outfit they really wanted wont be thier in the winter. (Ask the clerk to hold it for you for a day or so) Shop on line there a ways around the crowds. Have a few drinks with the girls or guys first. That always makes shopping fun. Stop thinking of it as work.

i like the idea of giving gifts than receive. the only thing now, it's a big expense. years ago i would get excited over a new coloring book and crayons. today kids want big priced items. but i, as the next one, buy these items. i think it's way out of line. i do believe that kids and adults really don't know why we give gifts. the reason it's called CHRISTmas does not mean too much to people. oh well, just a thought betty boop happy holidays!

Well we exchange gifts with the family because we feel as though we have to but my husband and I don't exchange gifts with each other. W e take $200.00 and put it aside and sometime after Christmas we go do after Christmas shopping.

I prefer to give than to get any gift. If someone felt the need to spend money on me for Christmas, I would prefer they gift the money to an organization to help those less fortunate than myself.
I feel more gratitude from giving to those who need more than in receiving.
Just my opinion.

I'm a 57-year-old grandma, but I LOVE getting presents. There's a special thrill in slowly unwrapping a present that has your name on it. And, you know that someone has taken their time to go out and buy you a present. (However, I'm not all selfish. I also enjoy giving and buying presents.)
Yes, we've always done it, but we aren't going to stop.
