Here I am again, the seventh night in a row, sitting watching crap telly, in agony with heartburn. I am living on Rennie and Gaviscon, it isn't helping in the slightest. I am 36 weeks pregnant and can't sleep. The minute I lie down, my mouth fills with acid and chokes me. I have tried milk, not eating after 6pm, eating bland food, and tried sleeping sitting up, but none of them work and am still feel totally fed up.
Hubby is snoring away upstairs and I am at the end of my tether!! Anything else I could try??
pleeeeease help!
Thanks LOADS! Jane xxx

Hello! I didn't read very far, and it's likely you have already solved this problem, but...firslty, my ob/gyn told me the Pepcid, Tagamet and one other thing that escapes my mind are fine to take. However, for FAST relief, and I am SOOOO not kidding....take a tyeaspoon of mustard. Really...
My husband had heartburn so ba done night, he was ready to go to the hospital because he thought it might be more that heartburn. He researched online and found that mustard...like you put on a sandwich killed his heartbuirn almost immediately. Now I HATE mustard like that, but, it helped him. I think it was a teaspoon...maybe more, but maybe start with that.
I'm sorry you are having troubles. I hope this can help!! :-)

You might try Pepcid AC, if you have that there. It's horrible that you have to be so uncomfortable. Is there a comfy chair you can sleep in? Just take heart that it will only be a few more weeks. Also, once the baby turns head down, that should give you some relief on your stomach. You might try sipping an herbal tea that aids in digestion with your meals, but be sure it's safe to consume during pregnancy.

PEPCID Complete -- I had the same issues.... In some cases, I'd take the Pepcid and wind up taking some tums a little later, but it worked for the most part. Good luck - it will go away once baby is here. Don't be surprised if it take a few weeks after baby is born though to totally go away, but it will subside once baby is born.

Some people have said try Pepcid, but I was told by a pharmacist at Boots that this shouldn't be used if you are pregnant and they told me to use Gaviscon (which you already are doing I see).
Make sure if you try something new you check with a pharmacist that it is safe. Now I'm really confused about Pepcid, was the pharmacist wrong??

Oh God Jane - I totally feel for you. Exactly the same thing happened to me when I was pregnant - it would literally reduce me to tears it was so unpleasant.
I used to knock back Gaviscon like it was going out of fashion and it did moderately help.
I'm sorry I don't know what to suggest - sounds like you've already tried everything. Maybe ask your pharmacist if there's anything he/she can recommend.
In the meantime, good luck. It should stop when the baby's head engages xx

Poor you.
Sorry I haven't got a cure for you.
However they do say that heartburn is caused by the baby having load of hair.
Good luck.

The reason you might have hearburn is because of the lack of acid in your stomach. Try taking a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinager, or drink a small glass of grapefruit juice. If this doesn't work try some baking soda. When I was in my third trimester of pregnancy I started to drink a mix of baking soda and water mix. Just make sure not to use too much baking soda.

I use zantac and tums. I have bad heartburn too...it keeps me up and when I finally fall asleep it wakes me up. I started swallowing tums whole because the taste of them and chewing them makes me sick to my stomach. I drink TONS of milk and try to eat breads and such when it gets really bad. But when I was up I take tums right away and well the zantac I take right before bed. It seems to help somewhat. BTW I'm 31 weeks pregnant...and I totally feel your pain.

I agree that the problem might be low stomach acid, and taking antacids will only make the problem worse. In addition, those things are full of aluminium which is a toxic metal and not good for your baby. If they aren't helping then definitely stop taking them.
