for computer class i need to know what is the frequency of the fastest CPU for a desktop computer that you can find advertised on the web?

2.93ghz Conroe
but higher number wise, it is a 3.7ghz Penitum 4 Extreme

Another good place to look would be on one of the large computer-manufacturer websites such as Dell, HP or Gateway. Start with one of their top of the line models and try to max out the CPU.

Also, if you do a little research into CPU's you'll find that just because a processor has the highest frequency that doesn't necessarily mean that it's the fastest. A lot of other factors figure into this like what is the size of the FSB (Front-Side Bus) and how much L2 cache memory does it have. Also, whether the processor is dual-core or a 64-bit processor will affect the computer's speed.
