Personally I prefer Shepherds as guard dogs. They are intelligent and fiercely loyal.
We had a small house fire last winter. A neighbor saw it and came into the back yard to put it out. Our shepherd let him come in and take care of it. Normally when this same person comes near the fence Wrangler (the shepherd) is on the other side growling at him. Like I said, smart.

pitbulls as long as you are able to control them, and if trained properly CAN get along well with kids and other pets.
pit bulls are very territorial and will keep any and all unwanted guest away, no much around here can or would even try to take on a pack of pitbulls.
alot of people seem to think they are dangerous dogs, thats because they are..... when in the wrong hands. make sur the dog knows your the boss and they will obey you and protect you to their deaths.

Dobermans aren't the biggest, but they're big enough, and the best. They are fiercely loyal and protective, and lean & sleek enough to run the entire property. If you want them bigger, cross them with black great dane.
Pits and Rotts are mean, and you want protection, not lawsuits. Go with the Dobies, Shepherds are good dogs, but dobies have "the look"

Anatolian Shepherd Dogs. Will guard anything you raise them with. No training needed. They are not scared of anything. There are dogs that look good and dogs that are good. These are good. Weather don't bother them much, except hard rain.

I like the Doberman, Get one as pup and raise it, I have one wouldn't hurt a flea but no one knows this, He just looks mean.
People just back up when they see him, I tell them he only bits if they try to harm me or family and laugh to myself.
