No, i would not swerve to avoid a hedgehog.

I would however, swerve and go out of my way purely to hit a hedgehog.

WOO HOO!!!

If I didn't swerve, and the hedgehog was called Sonic (Sonic the Hedgehog), I expect it would do a super-spin-attack at me, and my car would go pop and a load of fluffy animals would come scurrying out...

But seriously I agree with Rabbits answer above:

Your second line, 'and risk dying horribly in a heap of twisted metal', gives me my answer: NO!

Uh, when you run over the hedgehog, there may be a good chance you'd bust a tire and end up in the gutter anyways, so I'd swerve and risk it. Either way you could be screwed, at least this way you could save an innocent's life (the hedgehog)

Them suckers and their quills gonna POP my tires! :-P

I was driving along a busy road and there was a kami-kasi hedgehog I had to squash or swerve into other traffic. The hedgehog lost but so did I with a multitude of spines stabbed into my tyre. I had to change my tyre whilst vehicals skimmed past my backside and then lose time waiting for a new tyre to be fixed........ I think the hedgehog won on points. Next time you have to make a choice, remember my tale of woe...................

No if you swerve you hit them, they aint stupid and can leg it pretty rapid if required, but they can avoid a 6 inch wide wheel but not 2 as happens when you swerve and front and rear take different paths.
Badgers now, it is well worth risking writing the motor off to get shot of one of those TB ridden mega vermin,

I doubt I'd swerve my car to avoid killing a priest, much less a hedgehog.

Let's see... 2.1 tons kerbside weight of metal, plastic and pressurised rubber versus small rodent with matted hair for spikes... ???? Are you all on glue? ;)

Lets even the odds and give the hedgehog a couple of anti personnel mines and a heavy machine gun emplacement... Would you swerve now?

I'll swerve for any animal. As long as I won't swerve into an oncoming car.
