I think so, it seems to be all about the gifts and spending money money money. The holiday doesn't seem to hold its true meaning anymore. Americans look forward to this holiday all year long, and I think it's a bit ridiculous. What do you think?

Yes, in a commercial sense it's way over rated, but you can never over rate the reason we have Christmas. I can remember Christmas when I was little, long time ago, it seem so much different then. We didn't have a lot but we always had a good Christmas, not rated by the gifts but the Love for Christ. Now they want to take Christ out of all together. At least Wal-Mart got Smart this year and will allow their associates to say Merry Christmas again. So yea I think parts of the season are over rated. ......Jack

I don't think it's overrated- I think it's overcommercialized. Big business destroys it starting in October because that is the last quarter of the year, and the most profitable for retail. There is nothing more annoying to me than walking down a store aisle with Halloween on one side and Christmas on the other, without a single Thanksgiving decoration in between. Let us celebrate the holidays seperately, please!
By the time December rolls around, Christmas buying has been shoved in my face so much that I'm sick of it. I strike back by making most of my gifts, buying my decorations and gift wrap post-Christmas, and finding things on sale during the year.
On a sidenote, there should be a law stating that Christmas decorations in stores can't come out until Black Friday.

I would never say its over rated! What is over rated is how people get so stressed out and spend so much money and only care about receiving. what i enjoy and get excited about at Christmas time is all the giving and all the traditions with my family/ which include things like putting up the tree together, putting up decorations outside baking cookies watching the holiday movies, listening to carols and singing along. Just being Happy!

It seems to be all about who can spend more, who can give the most gifts etc... It's disgusting. I also don't understand how people can be evil to each other all year and then when Christmas comes around we all want to act like saints untill the beginning of the new year then it's back to being bitche* and a**holes. What about helping the poor and needy all year around. sighhhh.. it's to disturbing. Jesus forgive us all (throwing hands up) \O/

If you believe it's over rated, then it is.
I believe in the simpler Christmas. Spending time with family & friends, sharing a family meal, giving to those who are needy. No one says that you HAVE to spend a lot of money. Pooh-pooh to those that say you need to spend money, money, money.

Christmas is not "gimme-gimme", it's about "giving".
It's about Christ.

Merry Christmas!

not so much over rated as over comercialized. People just need to read the first bit of matthew in the bible and come back down to earth. I mean it is about a savior not a new pair of jeans

I agree with Flea. Can we please have one holiday at a time?

It has gotten to be too much about how much is spent on each other and "keeping up with the Joneses".

Oh to go back to simpler times.
