i hooked my wireless modem and i connected it and everything but when i took it downstairs i tryed to go on a website and it didnt work .what could it be that i have done wrong?

You could have interferences in between your upstairs and downstairs. Also depends on how far away you are/where your antennas are pointing.
Interferences could be caused by microwaves, unshielded wires in ceilings/walls, other electrical devices.

Did u mean that it is working fine if you stay beside the wireless router. If so, this would be the problem with distance or other interference.
