I have a school play audition and I am not sure what song to do... I am a soprano and my highest note is an A and I can go down to a low E.

If you can have a partner, grab a good male vocalist and try out with Another Day from RENT because that can really hit some notes for you and could really help show off your range, or It Couldn't Please Me More from Cabaret. If you have to go solo then try Diva's Lament from Spamalot...those are only a few I cna think of but just go through a list of songs that you can think of and try them out, and make them your own.

When your singing your song MOVE AROUND do not just stand there in a perfectly frozen place because the caster needs to see that you can multi-task and you can move & sing at the same time without breaking off or becoming boring.

The hardest part of auditions (at least for me) is picking the song I want to sing, but here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Although range is important, you need to be able to express the song you are singing - this will show you can act and sing at the same time
2. stay away from "the classics", everyone has heard them a thousand times and has their fav version - you have no idea what that version is and that could affect you big time
3. Pick a song you have sung before and know really well. it is easy to tell if you are struggling or thinking a lot about the next note
4. if you struggle with any part of the song, pick something different - you have free range of the whole music realm.

A good place to start is http://www.musicnotes.com

in general, no matter what song you pick the people hosting the audition will be able to tell you have a good voice regardless of what you are singing. Based on your range, here are a few suggestions (although once again - it has to be something you are comfortable with)
1. Caro Mio Bien (rather operatic, depends on the play)
2. This Used to Be my Playground (more pop - you will have to transpose this up to suit your range but can be sung very expressively)
3. I'm Not that Girl (from Wicked)
4. Something off of Mary Poppins

Break a leg!!! And don't worry - I am sure you will be great!!

Pick something you've sung many times before, and that's similar to the songs in the show. Try to pick something that's the same style as the show (don't sing something from the Sound of Music, if the show is Chicago).

Chances are the audition will include scales or range evaluation, at least at call backs. So don't worry about showcasing that in the audition song.

It really depends on what you are auditioning for. Make sure you know the vocal range of the role, and the style of show it is. If it is something like lets say Music Man and you were auditioning for Marian, you wouldn't sing something from Rent and vice versa. Sing something in the same vocal range that really shows off your voice.

choose a song you already know and are very comfortable singing. Make sure it shows off your talents and fits your character (the one you are auditioning for). break a leg!

Hmm... I think it should probably be something that represents yourself and fits within your limits... Or at least see what songs you would be doing in there and then choose one of them... just to show how good you are...

I suggest "Paradise City" by Guns and Roses. It's perfect for your range.
