I have played a lot of poker. I would suggest trying the following:
1) Play less often until you find out how to win more. A fresh mind and perspective is probably your best asset.
2) 5 card draw is a drawing game and requires you to value drawing hands more. Don't overvalue weak hands.
3) Playing tighter starting hands and chase less. Don't expect to win with good starting hands.
4) Spend time watching other people play the hand when you are not in it. Watch carefully what happens with the showdown and think back to how the person bet their hand.
5) Play lower limits. Gambling is just as much about limiting your losses as it is about maximizing your winnings.
6) Try different types of poker to see if they suit your play styles more.

Experienced players look for "tells", that is mannerisms that give away your hand. You might want to practice a poker face, behaving the same way whether your cards are good or not.
The main trick in poker is not to give away too much by how you bet. If you always raise big with a good hand your opponents will know when to fold. Often the biggest winners are the ones that win lots of little pots rather than one or two big pots.
Change your basic strategy from game to game to keep your opponents off balance (assuming you play against the same people all the time.) One time bluff a lot, another time be really conservative, etc.
Above all don't bet what you can't afford to lose!

Memorize the ranks of hands, and chances of getting them
Bluff every once in a while, but not to the point where you lose your shirt.
As already mentioned, look for "tells" of other people. Learn how they bet when they have a good hand, notice how often they fold, etc. Sure, it's hard work, but it pays off.

Don't be afraid to take a chance. I've never got a royal flush, but I was just one card away from it. I got a full house a few times, and a lot of times, I was just one card away from it. Flushes are easier to get, so if you have three or four cards of the same suit, take a chance and go for it. My best advice is just don't be afraid to take a chance.
