There is no set number. Obviously it must have at least one sentence, but it may also have many sentences, all tying together one theme. The first sentence is sometimes a topic sentence.
These sites should help.

There is no absolute rule. If you have an assignment to write a paragraph on a topic, the expectation will be at least half a page with a minimum of 5 sentences (an introduction, three supporting points, and a conclusion). If the paragraph is part of an essay of story it could have as few as two sentences, or even one if that sentence is part of dialogue. It could also have a dozen sentences. What is more important than the number of sentences is that they all be related.

As many or as few as you would like there to be. Typically, somewhere from 5-10. Many schools (primarily late middle school, early high school), have adopted the 8 sentence format which includes:
Sentence 1: Intro
2: Fact
3+4: Commentary
5: Fact
6+7: Commentary
8: Conclusion
Or, if you are Charles Dickens, you write an incredible amount of sentences, change all the periods to commas, and call a 200 word sentence "a paragraph."

Well in elementary it was 4. In middle and high, it was 5. In college it is 6-8 in a body paragraph and 3-6 in intro and conclusion. In research papers it is whatever in the middle paragraphs as long as you have many. But A paragraph is really just a complete tought, kind of like sentence.

5 is a good general rule. My professors tend to get pissed if paragraphs go over 7 or 8 sentences.

Some english teachers try to get children to get at least five, but really it is until the topic of that paragraph fully explained. Ask yourself is it/does it have: complete, unity, coherent?
