I think it's fine as long as you think it's something the recipient would truly want. If you get something and think "I don't like this at all but Aunt Mary would love it" give it to her (provided she didn't give it to you and she wasn't there when you opened it from someone else and she doesn't know the person who gave it to you). However if you're thinking "Ugh. This is ugly. Well, I have to get so-and-so a gift anyway so I might as well give them this so I don't have to spend any money." then I don't think it's nice.

Perfectly acceptable unless given back to the original giver, or their immediate family.

I never, ever tell a gift giver that I do not like or want their gifts, was raised better than that. Over the years I have had many nice things, I didn't want or need, and would have hated to just trash them.

Re-gifting, or donating to charity, gets them out of my house. Without being wasteful. Nothing wrong with that.

Who hasn't gotten presents that are absolutely perfect for someone else? As long as the re-gift present isn't too personal (i.e. monogrammed or inscribed with your name) there isn't anything wrong with re-gifting. In fact, if you know that you're never going to use a certain gift, but someone else would love it, why not pass it on to them? You should, of course, give it to someone in a different circle from the original gift giver, and please, remember to take the gift tag off!

If the gift was never opened, and was basically a good gift, just something you would never use. (Like a fry-daddy they are cool unless every member of your family is fat.) I see nothing wrong with it especially if the re-gifter doesn't have allot of money . But you need to be careful not to re-gift to a person who knows the original gift giver.

You got a gift and never opened it? Not very curious, are you?
re-gifting is better than throwing it out.

In a way I think this idea was created by "cheap" people. LOL But as time goes on and things get more expensive and my paycheck does not increase to meet the demand...I have to say, If I had something unopened-brand new...I'd Re-Gift it! LOL

I think it's a great idea.We all have different tastes so what one person may not like..another may LOVE :)
Nothing wrong with recycling...beats throwing a perfectly good and useable item away.

It's ok as long as the person that gave it to you can never, ever, EVER possibly find out.

And don't be like my grandmother who gives her what you got her for xmas last year! LOL!

THAT is awkward.
