Im cleaning my betta fish tank and I'm also using new gravel. I have soaked this gravel for about 10 minutes in hot water as well as strained it about 10 times with hot water. Even after doing all this I put it in the tank to be used and add water, dust from the gravel still rises to the top of the tank. I dont want the fish to eat rock chips so what should I do and does this dust even hurt the fish?

it doen't hurt it, but i think it could maybe be bad for its breathing, what i do is i use a strainer, put the gravel in it, an run it under water, it seems to take a little time for gravel to become less chauky over time though.

The dust wont hurt the fish and so long as you have rinsed it everything other then the dust should be gone making it safe for the fish. The only thing I would suggest is monitoring your filter as the dust can clog it making it harder to remove the things that will hurt the fish. And if you are still worried about it a gravel vaccum will removed the rock chips and dust quite effectively.

The 'dust' will settle, just give it 10 minutes and it should be fine. WIth certain gravels, you can never get rid of all that 'dust'!

Yes, it does. Your fish are slowly dying, thanks to your gravel. You see, gravel causes a chain reaction in the fishes body which produces a natural toxin. The results are horrific.
