First, click Start, right click My Computer, click properties. Click the Hardware tab, click Device Manager. Look to see if there is an Other Devices category. If there is, click it and note what is listed. If there is anything that says sound or multimedia in there, you need to reinstall your audio driver.

It all depends on if it's integrated sound, or a sound card. If it's an aftermarket sound card (you bought it after you purchased your computer) then you should have a CD with the driver on it. If it was included with the computer, you should go to the manufacturer's website, find you model or enter your service code (serial number, express service code, the actual name varies with the manufacturer) and a list of the drivers that are compatible with your system should be listed under a drivers or downloads section. You will find your audio driver there.

Uninstalling the driver and rebooting will most likely screw you over even more, because you have no driver installed. Very few sound cards, or integrated sound devices, will automatically install it's driver. If you have any more questions I can probably answer them for you.

You won't delete your sound card or any hardware easily by deleting a bunch of files. Most likely, you have delete the utility program. You can reinstall the program by using the disk come with your sound card. The other way is using third party software (like Media Player) to play your sound files. If u have really deleted the card (actually uninstalled), windows will detect the card when u reboot the machine and find the necessary driver to install it again.

Before you think you uninstalled it, try rebooting your machine; it should find the 'new hardware' and install it automagically. If that doesn't work, try going to your control panel and click on install new hardware - click on the sound card and the computer should manually find it. Depends on the OS. If you truly deleted it, you can locate your CD for it or you can find your card name and model (open the case) and go to the site to re-download it. I suspect it's still on the computer. Typically, when you accidently delete the driver, it's still sitting there. The computer should find it.
