I have downloaded a background for my computer, but when I go to my control panel, to my display properties, then to background options, it won't let me choose a background. I can see the options, but nothing happens when I click on them. I can only choose from the solid color backgrounds. I had a virus threat recently and downloaded some new security. It was after this happened that I started having the problems getting my background image options. Nothing else on my computer seems to have been effected, could this have happened from a virus? How can I fix it?

I've tried right clicking and setting as my background, but still, nothing happens. Actually, I see the image while my desktop is coming up, but then it just goes back to the solid color and the image goes away.

Download, update and run Ad-Aware from Lavasoft, AVG Antivirus from Grisoft, Spy-bot Search and Destroy, and Windows Defender fro Microsoft. All are free and do a pretty good job. Then re-run them in "safe mode". Press the F8 key repeatedly during the startup of the computer and before winXP loads.
