~Any of the How To Draw Manga Portfolio(I have all 3 and all are great) OR other portfolios that does not limit to one artist, like a collection, but make sure it's anime.
~A new manga for his collection, about 5 vols. because manga is cheap after all (I suppose you can go through his collection and see what kind he likes, action, fantasy, etc.)
~Anime action figures, or things that can be bought related to anime, example is Yuna's handguns, I have it and the quality is great, dont forget about quality, when it is made cheap it's not a good gift. (but then Final Fantasy is a game..there are other merchandise more related to anime)

it depends on what genre he likes. I'd find that out first (it also depends on how old he is), but here's what I'd recommend:
any movies by Hayao Miyazaki: (all good good anime movies)
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Howl's Moving Castle
Steamboy (adventure-sci-fi)
Akira (adventure/sci-fi/fantasy)
Perfect Blue (adult/drama)
Vampire Hunter D (fantasy-scary)
These are all movies. Unless you plan on getting him a portion of a series, buying a complete series can get kind of expensive. Good luck. ^_^

First you have to find out what KIND of anime he likes. If you get him something Naruto and he hates it, it will be a while before he forgives you.

If he likes anime and manga (either one, or both) get him a DVD of his fav. anime or a volume of his favorite manga series. If he likes the opening songs of his fav. anime, find the artist, and if you can't find CD's, order them off Amazon.com or Ebay.com

You could always get him a gift card to Best Buy, or Suncoast. That way he could get something he knows he doesn't have.
