Try this stuff called "Pink Soap". You can get it at any craft store. It is good for cleaning oil-based paints and should also work on water-based paints. It's great stuff. I have used it to get oil-based paint out of my carpet and off of my couch before. Of course, it's always easier if the paint hasn't dried yet. Good luck!

If it's dried, it's done. If it's still wet, you can use tons of water and continue to sop it up until there's only a little color in it. If you can, use some mild detergent to get the residual color up. It make take a great deal of time to accomplish this if it's a large amount (more than a Tablespoon). Continue to watch it to see if the color reappears, if it does, hit it again.
Another idea would be to clean it the best you can, keep it damp and borrow, or hire a carpet cleaner to suck up the excess water and keep cleaning it until it no longer appears to rise to the surface.
You can usually tell by using paper towel and pressing really hard to see if it is still in the carpet.
Good luck!
