When you are ready to buy a new system, go to www.stupidcheapcomputers.net. I buy all of my stuff from them, and everything is Vista ready.
Microsoft is about to release its latest operating system, Vista, in January. It’s going to make all of these “bargain” computers nothing but JUNK as soon as it’s released. The reason that you are seeing so many cheap systems on the market right now is because a lot of them CAN’T RUN Vista and the merchants are trying to dump them as hard and fast as they can before Vista shows up and everyone learns what a piece of crap they were sold for $500 (or whatever).
Anyway, I bought a complete, new system from stupidcheapcomputers.net with a warranty for LESS than it would cost me to build it myself or order a custom one from the manufacturer. You can use my frequent buyer code: ATX926. That will get an additional 10% discount at checkout.
I have NEVER had any problems with anything that they have sold me and their customer service is outstanding. Those guys blow my mind.
Good luck!

Todays standard for RAM is about 512MB it would really help. When Vista comes out the standard for RAM would be 1GB.
The hard drive is up to you if you need alot of space to store stuff then yes I would recomend a new Hard Drive. Hard drive is the amount of storage your computer can hold.
My Computer->Right Click C:/->Properties Tells you how much is used and how much is left.
If you are fine with everything you have on it now and want a preformance boost then get an aditional 256MB.
*Note a computer will start preforming slugish if you use up more then 75% of the hard drive
*Having to many real time applications can eat RAM so do not have anything you do not need at sartup or any unessary realtime applications.

Memory has nothing to do with how many files your computer can hold; it has to do with how many programs you can run without your computer slowing down.
20 GB isn't a whole lot nowadays; an average hard drive is around 60 GB. Depending on what kind of files you want to hold, 20 GB can be a lot. 20 GB of video is maybe a few hours, but 20 GB of Word Documents is probably around 10,000 Word Documents.

If you're running XP, you really should have a minimum of 512. The 20 gig isn't very big, but you'd be able to add a 2nd hard drive. That way, you can keep your programs and operating system on your 20 gig and keep your music, pictures & files on the 2nd hard drive.
