A question has been recently put on Yahoo! Answers UK saying 'What do the american public think of the british people?'.

A lot are simply putting 'I love your accents'!

What is it about the accent!?

This isn't question of desperation because I can't get a British girlfriend....it's just out of curiosity!

Yeah. My dad moved to Canada, met my mom the next day and they've been together 40 years. I'm sure the same goes for US.

From Love Actually:

Colin: I have just worked out why I can never find true love.
Tony: Why's that?
Colin: English girls. They're stuck up, you see. And I am primarily attractive to girls who are... y'know, cooler. Game for a laugh. Like American girls. So I should just go to America. I'd get a girlfriend there instantly. What do you think?
Tony: I think it's... crap, Colin.
Colin: No, that's where you're wrong. American girls would seriously dig me with my cute British accent.
Tony: You don't have a cute British accent
Colin: Yes I do! I'm going to America.
Tony: Colin, you're a lonely, ugly *****. You must accept it.
Colin: Never. I am Colin, god of sex. I'm just on the wrong continent, that's all. Tone, you're just jealous. You know perfectly well that any bar anywhere in America contains ten girls more beautiful and more likely to have sex with me than the whole of the United Kingdom.
Tony: That is total bollocks. You're mad.
Colin: No, I'm wise. Stateside I am Prince William without the weird family.

It's different. It's sexy. It's proper.

I think getting a girlfriend here would probably give you a bigger chance but if you aren't a nice guy then you'll get dumped as much as picking girls up. You do have a step in but it really depends on the kind of person you are. Also you may get women who like you for your accent and get bored... then you get dumped.

My boyfriend is Scottish and his accent is great. But I get used to it and don't hear it anymore. Even though he has his accent he had the same chance as an American guy.
Do know that after a while you do pick up the American accent. So it slowly goes away. But when you go back home the American accent goes away... though if you speak to someone back home the accent comes back.

Yep. I'm American, but my whole family are Brits. You should see the girls go ga-ga over my cousin. LOL

I don't know for sure, but I think it is the exotic element. It has no affect on me of course, since you guys all just sound like my family.
