I worked in a psyche hospital for a few years before going into law. Dissociative identity disorder is over diagnosed. A typical person claiming this disorder actually suffers from borderline personality disorder and this is used as another means to get attention. The DSM-IV is clear when it discusses the necessary behaviors to have this diagnoses. The majority do not fit. In over 4 years in a good psyche hospital, I saw 1 that could be verified as a real DID. This person was actually sent on, by the hospitals expense, to a center in Texas that deals with this disorder. Basically it is a fractured personality that occurs as a coping mechanism in a time of extreme trauma or abuse. During the time I was in psyche I would see a person, usually female, that claims that they were a multiple. 99.9% were full of it. Hope this helps.

No thats all B.S its impossible to go through this way of factor until eventually you're thoroughly insane, you cant have distinctive personalities, merely think of how atupid that sounds. Bipolar does no longer mean distinctive personalities, it potential that a man or woman could be chuffed one minute then thoroughly disillusioned the subsequent, without obvious reason. If i desired to act like I didnt do it then i'd use the excuse and say I dont understand what occurred it could of been my different character. a pair of three hundred and sixty 5 days in the past I study a piece of writing approximately some female that suppossedly had like seven personalities, yet exchange into married and had a 19yr old daughter that for the period of no way knew, and thats no longer all her 7 personas had a distinctive way of portray what that they had lived, the female exchange into making some strange stuff and alter into advertising the artwork, for a preatty peny

Current research shows that DID may affect 1% of the general population and perhaps as many as 5-20% of people in psychiatric hospitals, many of whom have received other diagnoses.
It is now seeming to be a Mental Health illness that is as prevalent as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

It is possible that about 8% of the population has DID (changed from MPD in the mid 90's).
It often goes undiganosed and treated as PTSD.

I dunno. Why don't you take a survey? Many people may not even be aware or been diagnosed either. Why don't you ask Sylvia Browne?
