Ok, I am an eighteen year old, a sophomore and studying mechanical engineer. Recently I have many questions and I am nhot certain what to do with my life. I do not even know if I want to be an engineer anymore and even if I will become and engineer then what. I wonder whar is going to happen once I start a carrer. I see many grownups around me with kids, family and property and is as if I want to hurry to become a real adult. How will I become like them, finantially secure, responsable, reliable and organized witch are traits I barely posses. Have you even be in this situation and how did you (or still deal) with this?

Slow down and remember that life is what happens and rushes by you when you are busy making other plans. You are only 18. Enjoy this time of your life. Don't be in such a rush. For young people entering the world of work today, you can expect to have at least two or three different careers in your lifetime and that is a good thing. You aren't expected to know at eighteen what you want to do with your life. Our daughters who are in their late 20's and early 30's are already into second and third careers, and having great lives.
I am 53 years old and a grandma and retired and I still don't know what I want to do with my life or what I want to be when I grow up. And that's ok.
Best of luck.

I always tell my students that the ideal career for them may not have been invented yet. If I look back at my classmates, only a few are doing what they originally trained for, and it is less because they weren't happy in their original jobs than it was because the world changed and offered opportunities we had not yet dreamed of - new technologies, new companies, new groups of people to interact with. Also, most people go through multiple careers in their lifetimes. A snapshot makes it look like people have it all together, but if you look at many of these people over time, they have gone through changes, some of them rather difficult. The only thing I can tell you is to make choices that will not close out options for you (in other words, don't drop out of school just because you aren't sure what you want to do). Build basic skills and learn how to learn, because you will probably be doing that throughout your life. And learn to recognize and to take advantage of opportunities which may arise. It is better to do too much than not to do enough. If I look at the most successful people, there are lots of things on their resumes which they may not be using now, but which may come in handy later (and which make them interesting people). I'm willing to bet that you can be responsible, reliable, and organized. Take on a small task and work on it. Then move to something larger. You probably have never had to demonstrate these qualities, which is why you don't think you are good at them.

I can honestly say things don't always go the way you plan it. That's all part of growing up, I guess. I had the same questions as you when I was eighteen. The best thing to do is try engineering for a couple of year to see if it's the right path for you. I think it'll become a lot clearer once you get a taste of it. I studied microbiology for a couple of years before I decided that it wasn't the right career choice for me. I still finished my degree and took a year off. After a year of soul searching, I decided to try education. Now, I'm in my late twenties and in my fifth year of teaching! (who would've thunk!).
You're still young, so enjoy life now! Don't be so quick to try to grow up. We learn through our experiences, so experience life now. You don't want your life to be so planned out now, do you?

Figure out what you like and what you are good at. Find a job that requires both skills.
Then pursue a degree in it while in college. Apply for EVERY scholarship possible. You get to keep that money.
Hopefully while in college, you will meet someone, if not, when you graduate the job department at the college can help you find a job, and until you meet that someone, hang with friends.
Most important, keep Jesus number one in your life, or you will always feel like somethings missing and won't make it to the ultimate paradise;Heaven.
Good Luck and God Bless.

You just need to listen to yourself at all times. Graduate. Look for a job - you will naturally look for something that interests you. Always make sure you follow your heart and do what makes you happy. All things will fall in place if you do so. But that's all a long story, and you'll be better off reading about it in "Maximum Achievement" by Brian Tracy. Google it, buy it and do it.
