Lightening and Engagement:
"Dropping," also called "lightening," occurs when the fetus descends into the pelvic cavity. Lightening is a sign that the presenting part, usually the head, is engaged in the upper portion of the bony pelvic. In first Pregnancies, this lightening generally takes place two to four weeks before delivery. In women who have had children previously, it rarely occurs until they go into labor. But as with almost every aspect of pregnancy, exceptions to the the rule are the rule. A first-time mother can drop four weeks before her due date and deliver two weeks "late," or she can go into labor without having droped at all.
It is possible, however, for lightening to occur without your realizing it. If, for instance, you were carring low to begin with, your pregnant silhouette might not alter noticeably. Or if you never experienced difficulty breathing or getting a full meal down or if you always urinate frequently, you might not notice any obvious difference.

Your baby should be dropping pretty soon, I dropped in the beginning of my 9 month. You don't feel any dramatic changes, sometimes cramping in the mid thigh to upper thigh or sharp shooting pains throughout the pelvic. Every things stretching and some women get it worse then others. Your belly also will look smaller then usual. That's normal too. When you notice that, then you'll be able to tell that the baby has dropped. Other then being extremely uncomfortable all the time, which I'm sure you've been feeling there isn't much else that happens. Its just waiting from here on out. Congrats and good luck!

It can be anytime. It can seem like a sudden thing or a gradual thing. They are all different. Some don't drop too far ahead and wait until the last minute. You'll know when the baby turns to get into position and hopefully moves right along. One of mine stayed in one position for 3 days and I couldn't rest or sit or anything. But, the drop is pretty obvious, you feel lower and feel more pressure on the bladder and have to go all the time and feel uncomfortable, as in maybe your back will hurt or your legs because the baby may be resting on some nerves. But, you'll be having it soon and that is never the same either. All different just like us. God makes no two things alike. We are all unique. good luck. Stay calm and read and try to relax. It'a almost over and you will have a bundle of joy to keep you very busy.

I am 36 weeks as of yesterday. I am just now feeling my baby dropping today. I am sure she has been dropping before but there is a definate pressure on my pelvic bone and I can see my belly is lower. Usually she is scrunched up under my ribs but she's definately lower today. I'm sure that it will happen soon. They say that if it is your first, it will happen sooner than if you have already had kids. Some, though, don't drop until right before labor.

Generally, you may urinate frequently due to pressure on your bladder. The fetus drops lower toward the birth canal. You may start breathing easier, feel pressure in your lower abdomen, experience some feet and or ankle swelling. The baby dropping is called 'lightening'. It occurs around the 9th month. Within 2 weeks you should experience this. Congratulations. You may feel tired by now. Keep your doctor appointments. You may experience irregular contractions called "Braxton-Hicks" contractions.

The problem with pregnancy symptoms is that they are so much like PMS. It may just be that you are under stress-- and hence the delay in your period (assuming that you have a regular menstrual cycle). The ironic thing is that the delay on the onset of your menses and your stress become a vicious chasing cycle where the delay of the menses feeds on your stress which then causes more delay in your menses. But then again, you may indeed be pregnant, but that the test kit was not very sensitive in detecting hCG. Whereas there are test kits that claim that they can detect hCG levels on the first day of a missed period, the accuracy of the test is greatly improved when the test is done more than one week after a woman has missed her period when hCG levels are higher. I suggest, in the meantime, that you "act" pregnant and take precautions just to be on the safe side until you find out for sure.

If its your first baby, it will usually drop about 2 weeks before you deliver. If you have already had previous kids you may not drop until you go into labor. Congrats.
