I need to know what rules you have to follow while arresting a woman, as far as treatment. One of my female cousins was arrested recently and was roughed up by the officers. It would be helpful if anyone knew any specific rules.

There aren't specific rules perse. I would imagine your cousin was roughed up because SHE was acting inappropriately in the first place. If you want to question it, just ask the department for their guidelines (they are different in EACH police dept.). Also, I can almost guarantee that her arrest is on video, so if you really want to push the issue, get a copy and watch it. I'd bet SHE was the problem.

There are no specific rules for arrest, other than the usual miranda rights. If they roughed her up, they can claim she was resisting arrest. If there are eyewitnesses to their behavior (or a videotape) she's better off wasting her time with this.

Well, I've watched "COPS" and thats it. Was she combative or confrontational at all?
From what I've seen its:

Officer: "Ma'am"
Lady: "Don't touch me!"
Officer: "Ma'am"
Lady: "I said get your f***ing hands off me!"
Officer: "Ma'am, calm down. We'll have to..."
Lady: ::cat scratch::
Officer: :wham: :boom: into the squad car.

Essentially, police are only allowed to use as much force as necessary to pacify. If she passive at the point of force being applied, it was excessive force.
