Hi there...although, it is very rare to hear a cat who doesn't purr it does occur. Purring is believed to be a learned behaviour from kittenhood when they are first born from the mother cat. Additionally, it is a learned behaviour during kittenhood especially when they are nursing that they learn to purr back to the mother to let her know everyone is fine.

She may be purring and you may not be hearing it - some cats have a very quiet purr. When she is sitting in your lap very quietly if you put your hand near her throat or upper chest you may be able to feel it but not hear it. I have a cat that does that and I am always surprised once I hear him. On the other hand some cats are extremely loud and not shy to show it. I have heard their purr referred to as sounding like a motor boat!

Nope - a lot of cats never purr. They are still just the greatest bundles of fur ever. So sweet and lovable and cuddly and nice. I just love the Kitty Cats and that is my Favorite Name for One too Kitten E. Katt.

Is rather strange. Cats even purr when injured or giving birth. Does your cat have an off switch. Just joking. I would see a vet about it. Your cat is one in a million.

Hmm. I don't think I could deal with that! I love it when cats purr. I've never heard of that, maybe she purrs really soft? Have you tried feeling for the vibration they have? Well, either way, way to go for making her happy!

I thought my black cat never purred. She meows & 'talks' to me though. I put a stethoscope up to her neck & did finally hear it. My grey cat's purr can be heard from across the room. Go figure.

Some cats just don't know how to purr...I have a little black cat and she is happy but she has never purred before and I've had her for six years. It's like snapping, some ppl. just don't know how to and can't snap.

My cat meows when shes hungry or when she wants to play! Well ususlly she meows to communicate like open the door i have to go poopoo in there! but anyways cats are very lovable!!!!!!!! My cat purrs @1am if im awake i pet her belly & she luvs it-only @1-3am tho. Also, she purrs when im about to giove her food. IDK maybe ur cat purrs but its hard to hear bc it could be loud or low gentle purr. Purrin is good for cats & their health so they def need to do it more often:)

well, it seems like your cat is very happy and content! i don't think that all cats need to purr to show contentment. every cat is different! don't woory about it. however, if it does become a probklem, take her to the vet.

Maybe her purring mechanism is just not there. She loves you and that is all that counts
