My baby is a month and a week old and her stool is now brown and not yellow and seedy anymore. Is this normal? She has been backed up twice now for days and days and the doctor recommended Karo syrup. I just wanted to make sure that her stool should be brown and not yellow.

My daughter's stool was yellowish mustard until she started rice cereal. Until then, she was breastfed. If you're concerned about it, I would ask your pedi...they would know best. Another thing i've heard about re: constipation is that you could give them a little prune juice or apple juice too...I would dbl check that with your pedi too though to make sure that they're ok with u introducing that to your baby.

If your baby is totally breastfed, there should be no color change unless you are giving the baby other food/supplement or medication. With the Karo syrup statement, I would think about a change in physician or at least a second opinion. If totally breastfed ONLY, the stool should also have a much "sweeter" odor to it.

Definitly see the doctor. Her stool should remain yellowish, this is from the formula, unless you start giving her other things, her stool shouldn't change.
