We love our iPods but do admit that no matter what you do the battery life gets shorter as they get older. I wouldn't worry about it though, there are plenty of aftermarket batteries.

Use your Nano but don't let it get fully discharged before recharging. Don't leave it in the charger beyond the charging cycle. In the case of Sound Docks or something, just charge it while your playing. It will charge to 80% in about 2 hours. You really only need to fully charge it if you plan on going on long trips.

I have had an iPod since they first became available. I am on my second full-size one. I also have a shuffle and a nano 2gb. I never leave them on the charger after I am done playing music. I don't think it's good for them to sit there. The batteries don't die that quickly. I have one that's a couple of years old, and it still works. The charge starts to last less though after a while.

it doesn't die in a year! trust me. and it is fine if u leave it in the charger for that long. i also have that kind of ipod and have left it in my iHome for up to 5 days at a time, and the battery is still working.

iPods have lithium batteries which are fairly resistant to problems caused by charging (improper or otherwise). You can leave it docked until you decide to take it with you or you can unplug it once charged, and lithium batteries hold a charge when not used (unlike ni-cad batteries which drain even when not in use).

Your batteries have about 500 charge cycles. If you half charge them today and finish the other half tomorrow, that counts as one charge.
