You can definately connect it to your desktop monitor by using a male-male VGA cable. Or as others have said, unplug your desktop monitor from the back of you PC, plug it into your laptop in the correct port (if your laptop supports this), and then turn on the laptop. The last and most important step to seeing the display is to hit the Fn (Function Key) and the corresponding button that says CRT/LCD or something similar. The functions that can be used with the Fn key are usually in blue and appear under or next to the numbers and letters that you normally use on the keyboard. If your laptop is still under warranty, send it back in for repair if possible. Some warranties don't cover screen damage but some might. (Price to fix screen is approx $700-1000 just to keep in mind ;) Good luck.

Laptop computers normally come with the ability to attach an external monitor. You should not have to buy any kind of a cable, it will come already attached to the monitor. You would just have to screw it into the matching port on the back of the PC. (There will only be one port even close to the size of the monitor's attachment.). You will want to have the monitor attached berfore you the boot the PC. (Borrow a friend's monitor - or take the laptop to their house - and practice. Should not take more then 2-3 tries.)

Pleas give us more info./input on you laptop and PC monitor.
How old is your laptop and what kind of outlets/connections you see in the back and sides of your laptop. Also, take a look in the back of your PC monitor and see what are the available connections, if any.

Usually, if both laptop and PC monitor are not older than two years, chances are that you could connect them via a USB cable. It all depends upon the hardware you have.

I wish I could be of more help.
