There is nothing wrong w/ your baby if he is doing the things that most 6 month olds do...don't let anyone tell you otherwise! It seems to me that dr's are so quick to say "your child is too big"...they did that to me....my son was 10 lbs at birth (gestaional diabetes), and weighed 22 lbs at 7 months...I will admit, he was FAT, but he did everything he should have been doing and more, but the pediatrician said he was at risk for being obese...I took him back for his 1 yr check, he weighed maybe 23 lbs, and the same dr that said he was fat, said there was something wrong b/c he should have gained a pound a month for the last 5 months...how much sense does that make? He'd still be obese...he just thinned out b/c he started walking, he was still a little bit on the big side for a 1 yr old! Sounds to me that you have a perfectly normal baby boy, there is really no accurate guideline of how your baby should look, as long as he's hitting the milestones (sitting up, rolling over, scooting), on time or close to it he is fine. You may just have a future football star on your hands! Don't let other people worry you about the size of your baby, and DON'T compare him to other babies...they are all different! Congrats on your new baby boy, and enjoy every moment of this stage, it doesn't last long! =)

My daughter was in a 12 month size when she was 5 months old. She weighed 8 lbs 9 oz and was 19 long. By the time she was 4 weeks old, she was at 12 lbs. 4 months, 20 lbs. The doctor said she was the biggest he had ever seen, but could not find anything wrong. He did tell me that I had very potent breastmilk!

That's alright my son went in for his 4 month check up and he weighed 19lbs 1oz, and was 26 in long.. The Dr says that he's normal and he just hit his growth spurt before other babies, and he'll even out soon enough. But my son was 9 1/2 lbs when he was born.. As long as he's healthy, it really doesn't matter how big or small he is does it?? It's funny how people react when they ask how old my son is and I tell them Oh he's 4 months.. They just say Wow that's a big baby!! Even Dr's freak out about it. But it's alright, the bigger he clothes are the easier they are to wash and fold!!

You should discuss it with a pediatrician. At best, they will relieve your concerns and tell you that this is perfectly normal (and you should believe the doctor far more than you would anyone on Yahoo! Answers), but they may want to keep an eye on him, just to make sure he isn't on track to being 8' tall, or they may want to give him some tests to rule out some genetic problems such as Marfan's Syndrome, which would lead to other problems later on in life. Personally, I'm rooting for him to be a perfectly normal, if a bit tall, kid, but you can't just assume that's the case.

Kiddie growth patterns vary from child to child. My daughter is 18.5 months and not even 21 lbs yet - but she's tall. There are some kids in my moms group who are at 30 lbs...and younger than my daughter. If you are concerned about it, i would contact your pedi to dbl check with them. If there was anything strange however, pedi's usually try to catch it early so they can help as the child gets older. If they didn't bring it up, they're prob not worried about it. :) You prob are going to have your 6 month appt in the next couple of days or just had it today....I would ask about it then. Or put in a call to them....
wishing you lots of smiles and lots of sleep!

Just watch him and his food intake. My son was born 9.5 lbs. and stayed big until about 18 months. At 2 he was average-sized and at 7 he's a tad bit on the skinny side. Baby weight doesn't always predict how the child will be as it ages. So just make sure your child eats healthy and don't stress about it. At 6 months he eats what he needs, not to stuff himself.

They just grow at different rates. It won't really be too long now before his growth will slow down also (usually between 10 and 12 months it slows alot.) Both my kids were about that same size at that age and both are perfectly healthy...just tall and skinny. But if you're really worried talk to his dr about it.

Your best bet is to consult your childs pediatrician...
While it may be nothing it could also be something big, like an over active thyroid gland etc. Best to get medical advise because the rapid growth you have described could be something serious..
Better to have it checked and find out you have a big healthy boy, than not have it checked and find out its something big that could have been treated if caught early...

My daughter was like that, too. Right at about a year she started to level out and now is in the 50th-75th percentile. It's not any healthier or less healthy than being more average- it's just what is right for your baby.
