I was given a sewing machine and have never used a sewing machine before. I'm trying to figure out what all the parts are on the machine, and wanted to know what the bobbin threading is/does.

"Is it a Singer" wind the thread on the bobbin & thread the end clock-wise through the little slot in the side of the bobbin case, then drop it into the bobbin hole & slid the cover shut. Then lower the foot lever & turn the big wheel holding the end of the thread that goes through the needle to the left of the needle & the bobbin end of thread will come right out. Now ur ready to sew, eh.

The bobbin thread sews the bottom stitch in a complete stitch. I think the top thread "pulls" the bottom thread up taut and thus you have stitches.

If you have any other questions about the parts, email me, I went over all the parts a couple of months ago with the start of a new sewing project for 4-H ers.

The top needle goes down into the bobbin and picks up thread from there, without thread in the bobbin your stitches would just fall out

the bobbin is the lower thread supply, it takes two sources of thread to make most sewing machines work.
