In an attempt to be thorough:
The sun fuses hydrogen into helium which emits a lot of energy in the form of heat and light. The sun also has a large amount of mass which bends space and time which manifests itself as a gravity field.
The heat and light from the sun warm the earth. The warm temperatures combined with the earth's rotation creates a cycle of heating and cooling which causes weather patterns. Those weather patterns distribute water all over the planet's surface.
The light from the sun is used by plants to convert water, soil nutrients and carbon dioxide into sugars and oxygen. Animals consume those sugars and oxygen and break them down for the energy stored in the molecular bonds (originally placed there by the plants using photosynthesis) and return carbon dioxide and the waste products to the soil when they die.
So as you see, the sun's heat and light sustain life on earth, and the sun's gravity keeps the earth at the proper distance that water remains in a liquid state instead of being boiled away due to too much heat, or freezing solid due to too little heat.

The sun provides us with Vitamin D but make sure you don't always stay in the sun too long or you can develop skin cancer. It also helps plants to grow by providing the right minerals. Without sunlight there wouldn't be much of a world, it's a wonderful creation.
