Well, to be honest, I've done both. I was first a nurse at a local prison for men. It was hell. They would have prescribed meds and would throw it on the floor or spill it in my hand (it had to be in a little paper cup to be dispensed) and they would yell it was contaminated. A fortune was spent replacing the meds, because that one had to be destroyed and another one administered. (Especially if it was a medication for a serious disease or disorder such as high blood pressure!) I was appalled that our tax dollars were being thrown away like that! No wonder it costs so much to house inmates! Well, anyway, years later, I was in on something really stupid and ended up spending a year in prison myself. It was in the same state, but different as night and day! The women were basically friendly, most like me, just did something stupid, but I did have to watch my back at all times! I had to work every day at the local landfill driving a front end loader for a dollar a day....6 days a week, 9 hrs a day! The work wasn't too hard, since I had already been a truckdriver, too, but good Lord, it stunk!!!! To this day, you'd be hard pressed to get me to jaywalk, because I don't want to go back there. I don't want to work there (if I could), either! Prison sucks!

I work in law enforcement, and I know that working in a prison is extremely stressful and there is huge turnover in employees. The important thing to remember, however, is that employees get to go home at the end of the day!

Nope- as long as you are not a prisoner. They need help and someone has to do the job. Make sure you keep your guard up and are serious about your job!

of course not. If you work there, you at get to go home at night. You are free. you are not in prison. Not an easy job, by any means, but a job.

I think it would be very dangerous to work in a prison. And let's face it. You deal with the scum of the earth.

Almost as bad. It is depressing and dangerous. If you work there, at least you can go home at night but it is not a desirable job.

no because you can leave and get paid but yes becuase you see everything that goes on and all the people are so mad at the world--the ones that are mad at the judge and police because they did it and got caught, the ones mad at the system becuase they were found guilty of something they didnt do, and the ones mad at themselves because of what they did
