The first thing they must admit the problem they are suffering from in front of people. Just like Drug and Alcohol problems. They probably suffer from anxiety attacks, which will compel them to gamble. The fear of losing is so powerful in these people, just like the fear of withdrawals with drugs and alcohols. The winning part also competes with the losing with the same amount of anxiety. You first must understand where this illness stems from. Then try and go to a site on-line to teach you the 12 steps or what ever. And then find a psychologist or psychiatrist, who deals primarily in gambling addictions. Find the right place, someone who the person likes. There is also the hot-line for gamblers anonymous. Above all they should be kept away from the places that sell lottery, and casinos, and no television sports either those create the urge and the anxiety attacks begin with the visual or audio, like the radio as well. Taking their finances away would be nice for a while at least, but that would take a legal order, to show they are incompetent to be in charge of their funds for they are suffering from a gambling addiction. At some casinos they will ban the entrance of some individuals for that reason, but again that takes a legal order, a power of attorney.
