If you are still living at home, I do not think it is a good idea at all...this is info that is best kept on a need to know basis, and your parents do not need to know. They probably already do, but this is best left unsaid...UNLESS you know they will react ok with it. If you have any doubt, and it sounds as if you do, keep it to yourself until you can make a living. I know far too many guys who couldn't keep their mouths shut and ended up on the streets...why take the chance? Your parents don't talk to you about sex, why do you feel you need to talk about yours to them? IF you are older, IF the need comes up, lay it on the table..no one will be that surprised, bet on it. You would hate for your family and friends not to know the real you...know that those that love you will not stop loving you for choosing to share this part of your life with them...
There will definitely be an adjustment timeframe for those people around you...but you will feel freer and better when you do...
There is no way to do it...there is no textbook....take a deep breath and do it.....

I told my parents on thanksgiving (didn't mean for it to happen it just popped out) lol. I DON'T suggest that!
If you feel that it's safe with your parents to know then just tell them. Either just let it slip out or do the whole sit them down and say you have something important to tell them thing.
If you don't feel safe, and don't live with them anymore, then write them a letter, send them an email. . . If you don't feel safe and you DO live with them, don't tell them.
