I asked an earlier question today(Sun. Nov 26) as to whether someone can alter/chnage/delete information from a CD recording, and received some helpful answers. But I am afraid I don't really know what "burning" a CD means. Can you explain?

(I hope the same answerers see this)

Burning a cd means that u transfer information from the computer onto a Cd. There are different types of cd.

CD-R - Recordable CD, Once u burn stuff on the cd, it remains permanent on the cd

CD-RW - Rewritable CD, You can put stuff on the cd and delete stuff on it

DVD-R - Recordable DVD, Once u burn stuff on the cd, it remains permanent on the cd

DVD-RW - Rewritable DVD, You can put stuff on the cd and delete stuff on it

Remember, dont burn stuff to fast, errors can occur and DVD Cds cud only be recognized by a DVD Rom drive. In order to burn normal cds, u need a CD-R Drive or "burner" and for DVDs, a DVD-R Rom or "DVD Burner" Some ROMS come in combo drives eg CR-R/DVD-R Drives. Laterz

When you "burn" a CD, you're using a CD writing drive to put information on the disc. This is done by making little indentations in the data layer of the CD (on the inside) with a laser.

CD-R (Compact Disc - Readable) discs are one time use only. Once you write a batch of information to one, you can't erase it or put anything else on.

CD-RW (Compact Disc - ReWritable) discs can be erased a certain number of times (usually a hundred or two) before they become useless.

When you burn a CD, you're using a CD writing drive to put information on the disc. You're basically saving data from your pc to a disc. In other words it's like saving data from your pc to a floppy disk. Instead you are using a CD writable disc.
