I was wondering how cell phone salesmen make a wage off of there job? I ask because a friend of mine gave me the best deal on a new phone for signing a new contract and I was wondering if it would put a dent or set him back in his job because I feel kinda bad if it did.

Cell companies and sales people don't make any money off the price of the phone. They only lose money off phone pricing. For example, a RAZR costs the cell company $400, but they sell it to you for $200. They make a profit when you stay on their network on pay your bill. It usually takes 6 months for a cell company to make a profit off of a customer. It's a really low profit margin.
Unless your friend is a sales manager, he probably didn't lose any commission. Only managers can make additional cuts in phone prices, for the reasons I listed above.

If you are looking for used phones, definitely go to eBay. You can go to an auction room, which is the best place to bid on phones. If you are looking for a brand new phone, all basic phone networks ( Verizon Wireless, AT&T, TMobile, etc.) sell phones on their websites, and they have phones cheaper if you have a 2yr. agreement. Verizon has phones a lot cheaper if you have a 2yr. agreement, so give them a try. AT&T gives away free phones, like the LG Incite if you have a 2yr. agreement. It depends on the type of phone you want for the price to be low. While touch screen and QWERTY keyboards are a little pricey, you can always count on the reliability of a plain flip phone, which rarely exceed the $100 price line. I hope this helped!
