Well, put quite simply, Juveniles should not be tried as adults in court. But the system is grossly misjudging both adults and children in their capacities to make decisions.

Physiologically speaking, humans do not fully develop their critical thinking skills until they are adults! According to developmental psychologists, males' brains do not finish in their development of critical thinking until the age of approximately 21-23. Women's brains mature a bit earlier, between the ages of 18-21.

So this would explain a lot! Why don't teenagers and young adults seem to make good choices? Why do many young adults take risks without considering the consequences of their actions? Because they are physiologically unable! They have not yet finished developing the mental processes which allow them to do so. Until the medical community brings forth research to the contrary you will be hard pressed to find juveniles consistently tried as adults...simply for the reason that they are *not* adults!

Have a great day!

The only reasons are our sympathy for them, and our faith in psychology, to whatever extent. We assume juveniles generally are incapable of fully understanding what they do, or that they are young enough to be saved from making a career out of crime.

Most of it is because we blame ourselves, perhaps rightly, for what they do. Frankly, while I would not severely punish every kid that made a mistake, if two kids were to steal a car, get drunk and crash and kill a family of 3, even if those juveniles are 14, I would have little reluctance in giving them 25-life.

because they are juveniles. doesn't make sense to try a child as an adult when the child is temporary and we are adults for the rest of our lives.

Well, if they don't have the same rights as adults, they mustn't have the responsibilities as adults either.
If minors aren't competent to drive, drink, smoke, or vote, obviously the must take that into account when trying minors as adults. You can't have it both ways.

Because they supposedly do not have adult level reasoning and physicality.
