I really don't know much about how it works, also does DSL make use of just a phone line or coaxial cable?

DSL uses just your phone line. It's most likely ADSL - SDSL is a lot more expensive and not generally used by your average consumer.

Hey, give Mom some credit! She may not be a technogeek, but she's paying the bill, and wants value for her dollar!

It is almost certainly ADSL. It runs entirely over a phone line. The rubber meets the road at the DSL modem, which Qwest probably provides. There are probably filters on other devices on the same phone line to prevent interference.

DSL uses the phone line, but on a higher frequency than your phone calls, which is why it can run at the same time as you being on the phone.

More than likely you are on an ADSL plan. SDSL means that the uplink and downlink speeds are the same. If you contact tech support and ask them, you should be able to find out. Rarely would SDSL be readily available to many people though.

DSL just uses the phone line. I believe Qwest is on ADSL.
