As the basis of all machines success is the games, and nintendo has a track record of producing innovative and unique gameplay elements the Wii is following this philosophy, whereas the PS3 and Xbox 360 are purely graphical powerhouses using new and expensive technology (thus a more expensive machine).

At the end of the day, do you really need to see every last pimple and blemish on the face of your game character, or see every blade of grass on the golf course. I'd rather play a good game than a pretty game any day of the week and already have a Wii on order (UK)

and remember, for around £300 pounds you can get a Basic PS3 with nothing extra, An XBox 360 with a game or two, or a Wii with extra controllers and 4 or 5 games.

Compared to previous Nintendo systems, the Wii is actually a bit more expensive, most likely due to inflation. However, the contrasting price difference compared to Sony's and Microsoft's systems is due to Wii's lack of modern hardware and HD support.

It hasn't got DVD capability (that'll be released later), isn't 100Hz high def and is made more to appeal to people who wouldn't normally have a console. Only hardcore gamers care about the physics and graphics of each drop of blood in there shoot 'em up, and will pay the hundreds of pounds/dollars for the tanks beside their TV's. The Wii is to appeal to kids and older people too!

because nintendo have been listening to customers and invested alot into the console, and the graphics quality is bad and no where near as advanced as ps3 or xbox 360.
the motion sensors in the controller too are not too complicated and are cheap to make.

Because Nintendo loves their customers. So they gave us a good deal. Iy is not like the Wii is a bad system. The Wii is the best system.

Most likely for various reasons. To get people to try their unique gimmick (people generally say it's bad, until they try it and then they suddenly like it according to reports from where it's out), because the equipment cost is lower and because they're going to make the money back through the games, rather than the console.

Possibly because of the PS3 being out soon so they don't want to charge excessively for the Wii as they know that many people want the PS3.

Thats because the technology in it, meaning the CPU, and graphics aren't as advance as Xbox 360 or Ps3, thats why its alot cheaper.

It isn't "next gen." It is essentially a smaller, slightly beefed up Gamecube with a really cool controller concept and built in WiFi.
