Humans are a kind of animal. We have a lot more in common with Dogs and monkeys and fish than we have with cacti and molds and cedar trees.
But animals aren't a species of humans. You're teacher might have been mumbling or something.

humans are in the phylum animalia therefore humans are animals, and humans/animals are under the kingdom mammalia, but that is just mammals. but humans are a species of animals, ask your teacher again to clarify that is what they said.

No, I am going to relate this to geometry. A square is a parallelogram, a rhombus, and a rectangle. However, a rectangle, rhombus, and parallelogram is not a square. The reason animals are not humans is because while humans and animals are both in the same kingdom, they are not in the same genus and species.

Everything, aside from plants, is considered an animal. We are the highest form--homosapiens. Your science teacher MAY believe in Darwinism in which, according to theory, man descended from apes.
