Call your doctor to be on the safe side and ask him what he wants you to do.My water broke with my 1st baby and I only had braxton hicks up until that point.I am pregnant again with my 2nd-and I hope my water breaks again-that is the easiest way to know to get to the hospital.Probably though-if they are that far apart then wait until they are 3-5 min apart for an hour or more and then go the the hospital.

Hard to say. Have you tried laying down and seeing if they go away? Usually if you change positions braxton hicks will go away. If this is your first baby then the contractions may take a while to get to five minutes apart. ALSO... they are not going to be EXACTLY 5 minutes apart every time. That isn't how our bodies work. Some may be 4 others may be 6. 5 minutes apart is just kinda an estimate to use. If they are between 4-6 I would be heading to the hospital.
*Another sign of the real deal is having a hard time walking during one or having a hard time talking during one. Are they getting stronger or staying the same? If they are getting stronger it will more than likely be the real thing.
Good luck.... If you are far enough along I hope it is the real thing!!! :)

Well i had the same problem. I had contractions every 5 - 6 minutes for 2 whole days. Was a disaster i got no sleep was back and fo the doctors with worry then suddenley they just dissapeared. A day later they came back with the same time intervervals but hell of a lot more painful. Visited teh docs but they wouldnt keep me there til i was 4 cm dilated - somehow i was only 2 and it stayed taht way for about 13 hours. Thats what i thought was real labour. But geez i was wrong believe me hun you will now. For days i was like is this it is that it. But honest to god you will know. It is worrying as you dont know what to expect or anything but if they get to the point where u can hardly bear it id pop to the doctors.
even if it is a false alarm itll put yr mind at ease. But i wouldnt listen to anyone who tells you to wait until your waters have broken. My didnt break until i was 7cm in full blown labour and even then they were broken.
But good luck with everything, bear with it and try not to worry :-)

Don't wait for you water to break or you may end up delivering at home; with two of my children the doctor broke my water on the delivery table. If they are not following a pattern, I wouldn't worry too much. You're right, at 5 minutes apert regularily, you should go to the hospital. If it were me, I would assume they were Braxton-Hicks until they started coming at regular intervals. Sounds like it will probably be soon though. Good luck and God bless.

If the contractions stop when you lay down, they are probably braxton hicks...how far along are you? Usually the real deal will cause a cramping feeling in your lower abdomen and your back...braxton hicks usually just cause a tightening feeling in your belly. If it is the real deal, the contractions will get gradually stronger and closer together. Try to relax and get as much rest as you can, once you get to the hospital you won't get much rest!!! Good luck...You'll do GREAT!!!

I've always been told if you think you're in labor to drink a couple glasses of water or juice and lay down on your left side (contractions can be caused by dehydration) and I guess if that dosen't work you should probably call the doctor. If you're not atleast 37 weeks I'd say call that doctor right now, better safe than sorry. Good luck

Oh boy...If you go in now the monitor will be hooked up to check for severity of pain and how close for true labor. I went in when the contractions were about that close and got to sleep until morning then everyone got to work...that was years ago..Ok, if you go in now they probably will make you walk but I would go in an get stress tested for the severity and duration of contractions. Happy motherhood....

if you have more than five in an hour then it is recomended you talk to your doctor. If they are not rythmic then it may suggest false labor, but a docotr will not get mad if you don't take chances. How far along are you though.... I would suggest if they get painful then you go to the hospital. good luck and congrats.
