My husband and I are at a loss for how much to spend this year? I really dont know and neither does he. It is our first christmas where we can really afford to spend money on our children and each other. I know it is not all about money and spending but suggestions on a good dollar amount is much appreciated.

How much? What to get a 2 year old boy who loves cars, movies and tractors and a 2 month old boy (I know it doesnt matter, but I'm lost!)? What should I get my husband (please dont say another baby....lol...Family joke!) who is really into electronics, movies and things of this nature? Some help on these questions for the holiday season would be much appreciated!!

We have 3 kids and each other and I always say if you dont have the cash dont buy it. No credit cards! We usually spend about $100-$150 total unless we end up finding an expensive thing for hubby and then its maybe like $200, he is into video games and what not that cost a lot. NOt sure what to get your hubby I am thinking of what to get mine at the moment.

Only you can decide that because only you know what your income is like. To some people, it's not a "real" Christmas unless they lavish their children and spouse with hundreds of dollars' worth each. And others don't feel the need to spend that much and maybe only go for $20 each. It depends on the person and their financial position.

As to what to get each person, think about what their hobbies and interests are. I do have to say though that you are probably the first person here to mention the recipient's interests. What types of things has he mentioned that he is interested in? Electronics covers a wide range so it's really hard to suggest anything. Does he want a digital camera or an MP3 player or something of that nature? What movies does he like that he doesn't have yet or that haven't been released up until now?

As far as the kids, browse the toy and video sections at Walmart or Target and see what catches your eye. For the baby, you can't go wrong with clothes as they are always growing. Educational toys are great for both ages.

Make sure you always keep your budget in mind so you don't overspend.

Getting caught up in the buying frenzy around Christmas can make the holiday lose its meaning. A lot of peole I know have become very tired of it, and either do grab bags, swaps, or hand make their items to bring the thoughtfulness back to the season without losing their shirt.
Buy one nice gift for each person on your list. Kids really don't need to get more than 2 or 3 things, and it might teach them to respect the toys they do have more.
