Before Avery et al. discovered that DNA was the genetic material, the forerunner was protein, as scientists believed that there was enough variability in protein structures to create all the unique individuals that you see every day.

It's alive, people can run away from the biological truth but doesn't make it false. The embryo inside a human woman is obviously a human too. It has its own DNA separate from the woman and a heartbeat at only 3 weeks after conception. How is it not alive? How is not a human if it has human DNA? These people that say 'it doesn't look like a person' are ignorant of embryology and haven't seen 3-D and 4-D ultrasounds of first trimester embryos. At 7 weeks it already resembles a baby, at 8 weeks it definitely looks like a baby and possesses 90% of features that all of us do. The 9-week fetus can grasp, move, open its hand, and move the tongue! This isn't a religious issue, it's an ethical issue. I'm atheist and science proves that the embryo/fetus is a baby. Therefore, he/she is entitled to protection that all of us have. Anyone can verify your claims by visiting the link below which is a website of "endowment for human development".

Many moons ago, scientist believed that blood held the seeds of life. I don't know if that translates to genetic code, or blueprint though.... Hope this helps!
