However this so-called "shorthand" bleeds over into real life all too often. I proofread application letters of graduating seniors all the time (especially from November through March) and I often see seniors that have spent too much time on "My Space" or in various chat rooms use Internet abbreviations in their letters to major universities under the impression that the admissions' office will understand they are using shorthand.
They don't.
This is one plague of the Internet--it has made many people lazier and as a result sent them out into the world ill-prepared to compete against people who spell correctly and who also use proper grammar. If you work for IBM, Ford Motor Company, Xerox, or other major companies the people that make the most money do NOT use 4-sur or Wot-eva in their official reports. The people who spell like that are the ones assigned to come in after hours and clean the bathrooms, empty the garbage cans, and Windex the windows.
Habits formed on the Internet are hard to break and they reflect laziness and poor educational background. I think he has a point.

It's sad how many of the losers on here take it so seriously instead of just having a laugh or answering the odd question seriously, for some of them it's all they have they're actually here to make friends or try to feel superior for just a little while each night because they have nothing to feel superior about in their real lives.

I use the spell check, some people need to get a life, if you don't spell it right and I know what you mean that's alright with me.
