I did it two years in a row before i had my baby, both years helping out in homeless shelters. It really made me stop and take a look at what Christmas is suposed to be about and what it has become. I would recomend it.

No, but I've spent many days before Christmas doing charity work. I grew up in the Salvation Army church and we did a lot as you may know, even went to Mexico as a youth and gave out blankets and bags of popcorn and candy. Does this count. God Bless and have a Blessed Christmas.

Yes, all voluntary

1 Christmas worked for the day at a church feeding the elderly, homeless and lonely

1 Christmas working on a helpline in Glasgow answering calls for those who had problems, sadly the funding for this was removed [ cost of offices, phones and the regular staff ]

Other charitable things done outside the UK on this day

It is a nice feeling doing something for someone else on this special day

My sister and I are part of the Basket Brigade in Ft. Lauderdale that brings food to needy families of terminal children. There are about 100-150 of us that get together. We ask local elementary kids to decorate the paper bags we use to hold the food. It brings a personal effect. I'm also a nurse and work Christmas morning for my co-workers who have children. You can't replace the looks on the kids' faces first thing in the am! Happy Holidays!

Yes. In Philadelphia, there is a program called MANNA -- it's similar to meals on wheels, but for people with or affected by AIDS. I spent the day delivering meals with my husband & son.
