Things, such as gas and food, did cost quite a bit less, but you have to remember that wages and benefits were not even close to what people make today! In the seventies, I could by a glass bottle of coke for 25c plus 10c deposit (unless we drunk it there, then we didn't have to pay). My allowance was $2 a week, much higher than most. Homes were smaller and less expensive, but heating fuels were outrageous. Gas was less than a dollar a gallon in most areas.

I don't know, but my grandma has this software that you enter your bday and it tells you the gas prices per gallon, how much milk costed, loaf of bread and stuff like that. I just tried to install it on my computer, but it wouldn't work. srry. ps. if there is no information on the internet, why is it a school project??? You should call grandparents or ask your parents. they might know.

This is personal knowledge. I can remember when stamps cost five cents. You could buy buy a lot more things with your money. This is in Australia. Life was cheaper. Try your library. Your parents should be able to help you or older folk. Good luck.

I was born in 1969. (Believe it or not)

In the mid to late 1970's

A coke was a 0.25 cents, a candy bar was twenty cents. My brother and I walked to the local theatre and watched Jaws for 0.25 cents each. Grandma packed us our own popcorn in brown lunch bags.

The first gas price I remember seeing. was about 1979. 0.36 cents
