I am 19, my problem is I hate the alcohol trade & the way people act like it's the most important thing in the world.

I see more and more 15-18 year olds drink alcohol and it upsets me to the stage and I can't be friends with them.

It upsets me because they have so much potential and they are wasting it because of all the alcohol they are drinking.

I can't tell them what to do with there lifes, I have tryed talking to them but they just say "im boring". I can't watch them destroy there lifes so I don't have there friendship anymore.

The alcohol trade targets young people so it has it's next generation of drinkers, it does not care what happens to you or what your family goes through while you abuse it.

The more adults get drunk, the more teenages think drinking makes them adults.

So can anyone tell me how to keep my cool around alcohol drinkers because it is destroying my social life and my chance of meeting and making new friends.

Any ideas?

It is sad to see young people drinking alcohol and behaving foolishly. Most go through this stage and, hopefully, learn sense later.

I think this is a question that needs lots of posts. I enjoy a drink, to say the least, but I would not lose friends with someone who does not drink just because theu did not like/agree with alcohol. In fact, my partner rarely drinks-3/4wines a week! Would you stop being friends with people because they are a smoker, or a vegetarian, or a homosexual? I think you know where I might be going, but I would suggest you open your mind a little. If you try and stop judging people by their actions, they will stop annoying you to much.

Without wanting to sound patronising (and without knowing your background), I think you will chill the older you get and be more tolerant of people who like and enjoy things that you do not.

Go out - have fun, don't judge your friends and show them that you can be good company and fun to be around without getting drunk.

Join in the party on your terms. Let your friends get on with it as it is usually just a phase most people grow out of. If you respect their choices then the true friends should respect yours.

Although I agree with your thoughts, people learn by their own mistakes - you cannot make them do what's best for them (ask any good parent). If you really can't bear to be around them, then you will need to change your circle of friends - choose a leisure activity that doesn't revolve around drinking.

i don't really drink for a few reasons, mainly as i have a baby now i'd sooner stay in with her.
before i got married i used to be out every saturday night drinking with friends, i never got drunk, just tipsy, but i got bored of drinking alcohol once i turned 18, i ended up staying on soft drinks and i enjoyed myself just as much. if i was you, go out with your friends, let them drink it's up to them, if you want to stay on the soft drink, fine.
people will resent you if you go on about drinking to them, i don't agree with kids drinking, i know i did it! i thought i was big and clever as most teens do when they drink.

I can see where you're coming from but its a little extreme if you are losing friends because of it....;
