This is a new computer and I can't turn it off by going to start and turn off computer. I've tried pressing the power button on the tower but that just puts it into standby. Can't seem to understand whats wrong. Anyone out there who might be able to help??

Go look at your power settings in the control panel and disable standby.
What happens when you use the start button to shut down the computer? SOmetiomes viruses and bad stuff will hang during shutdown. Make sure your antivirus software is up to date and running.

And doing a complete computer scan to get rid of any spyware/viruses it may find. I'd normally suggest also installing Ad-aware and Spybot, as well as a free AntiVirus program like AVG or avast!, but this is a good start.

The problem is that you may contain a trojan horse or other viruses... Did you look at some XXX stuff if you know what i mean... Or its because your power outlet for your computer has defaults.
