I have just read some of the answers and some are unbelievable. Animals don't think?? Now that is really silly. As to the question there are recorded incidents of animals with higher intelligence such as the great ape species taking some sort of retaliatory actions as acts of revenge and I have heard that elephants will do so and they do have excellent memories. Dolphins are also very intelligent so maybe they do so as well but I don't think anyone has recorded this

"Revenge" does exist, but not like we think of it. We think, "Oh man, that guy just punched my best friend. I'm gonna wait till he gets home, then light a bag of dog-doo on his porch, ring the bell and run away."

Animals don't think that way. If an animal sees a predator kill some of its babies, then see the same type of predator later, it would attack it to protect its remaining babies, but not out of revenge.

Most of the stories that were said in this question (squirrel attacking hawk) were out of protection, not revenge. They are commonly mistaken.

I heard a story about a baboon that was knocked down and killed by a car in Africa. The baboon's relatives sat by the side of the road for 3 days waiting. When they saw the same car coming back the other way, the leader jumped up, gave a signal and they all attacked the car with sticks, stones and whatever they could.

I would say so :).....example, got a male pet rat while hubby was away.........he comes home rat is on my knee he picks him up and lets him run loose so he can snuggle, 20 mins later the rat sneaks up behind hubby gives him a nice bite on the hand and chases HIM from the sofa (i know its not animal against animal but think relevant to the question ).

apes and chimps do, so do elephants, i'm sure there are plenty more. Closer to home, one of our cats wont forget even the slightest mistake or perceived insult. He ALWAYS gets you later, then he's happy and content again. The other one (his mum) forgives straight away if you make a fuss of her. The dog never took revenge, she just used to sulk.

Animals live by instincts and are incapable of emotions. Only humans have emotions in this world, and only humans plot and carry out revenge

Yes, actually. Chimps have been observed paying another chimp back for bad behavior. So it does exist to some limited degree.
