i have a 1995 ford explorer thats in pretty good condition, a few scratches and dings. its being used as a car that has been passed down the family as a first car for the new driver. the transmission recently went out and the people that we took it to said it was a maximum of $4000 to repair it. Should i just sell it or repair it

You should sell it for parts. Not worth the expense.

Agreed with scrapping it for parts. That is way too much for a transmission repair or replace.

Either sell it or put a rebuild kit in the transyourself, about $200. I have a trick to repair trans where it will never leak again. Use loctite on the bushing that the t. convertor slides in.

You can buy a new transmission at your local ford dealer for $3200. I would say that tranny shop is trying to get in your pocketbook.

I think that $ 4,000 it a rip off. it usually will cost around 1500 to 2000 even on trucks. I would find a new tranny shop because you are getting RIPED OFF!!!!!

sell it, it probably isnt worth 4000 you might get lucky and find a used tranny at a salvage yard but you are taking a chance the res of the car is worn out too. 12years old

4000 is awful expensive for a trans .id get a rebuilt one for about 900.00 or rebuild yourself for around 200.00 getting a good used one at the junkyard is about impossible
