I'm trying to read a chapter in my Communications textbook for the big upcoming test, but NOTHING is going into my head. It's like my brain turned off, but my eyes are still scanning the words in the book. Of course I want to get an A, but I'm just not motivated. Any advice?

sometimes we don't feel motivated but later we regret it. forget about motivation. read the text and underline only the important things. then read it again but just the underlined bits. don't underline 2 much. then close the book and do something else for 10-15 min. read the underlined again. try to review in your head the whole thing. reconstruct the whole matter in your head. you can also speak it out loud if you wish. look for more information on the same subject or on parts of it which are not completely clear on the net or elsewhere. read the underlined again.

It was always hard for me to read text books as well. When I wanted to study for a test I would prepare by taking really good notes in class. Then when I was home studying I would just re-read, type, and write my notes about 3 times and I would get pretty good grades (A's and B's). If you have a professor that doesn't give good notes, just answer all the chapter review questions from your text and memorize all the vocab words. That's an easier way for the information to sink in rather than reading the whole book. Good Luck!
